The Digestive System
WHAT IS THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM?
The function of the Digestive System is basically to process the food that we intake. The system is able to take in the food we eat, breaks it down and lets us pass out our waste as well. There are many different body parts and organs involved in this system such as - the mouth, salivary glands, esophagus, liver, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, duodenum, ileum, jejunum, rectum, bladder and the anus.

EFFECTS?
Parkinson's Disease actually has an impact on the Digestive System as well. Common symptoms that people who go through while being diagnosed with this disease are constipation, unusual movements in the bowel, nausea and bloating. The causes of these symptoms also come from the Nervous System, this is where the autonomic system is effected. The function of the autonomic system is to make sure that the body is able to have smooth muscle movement and activity, however, once the autonomic system starts showing irregular activity this is where the constipation kicks in. Having this happen in your body will result in one's digestive/intestinal tract to slow down. Another risk that Parkinson's Disease could have to the Digestive System is that if the person suffering from the disease is already on advanced stages who has a hard time swallowing solids. With having trouble swallowing this would obviously cause problems too. It would give a limit to what the person is able to eat and what not to eat. This could come in terms of having a special diet needed for you and maintaining a special diet could also indicate that you won't be getting all the nutrients you need.
